DSB Bank & Times of India (TOI)

Digital Eyedeas designs premium editorial and coffee table book projects for enterprise and media clients. This case study covers how we partnered with Tatparya Advertising to turn 81 years of Times of India archives into a single luxury publication.

The Challenge

The Times of India archive holds millions of images and headlines spanning Independence, the 1983 World Cup, economic liberalization, and the digital age — the challenge wasn’t a shortage of material, it was an overload of it. The brief was to turn that volume into a single luxury artifact without it reading as a cluttered scrapbook. It needed to feel like a museum exhibition in print.

Strategic Approach

We treated the book as visual journalism rather than a layout exercise, building a design language that could carry 81 years of change without losing coherence.

  • Built a grid system that evolved through the decades — classic typography for the 1940s shifting to sharp, modern layouts by 2021 — giving readers a physical sense of moving through time
  • Restored archival clippings for legibility while preserving their vintage texture
  • Established a strict visual hierarchy so landmark moments (1947, 2011) earned double-page spreads, letting key history breathe instead of competing for space
